"LADWP officials said the massive leak occurred in a 36-inch trunk line from 1916. In order to avoid further damage, crews had to slowly and carefully turn off valves of the highly pressurized water system.
"This is one of the challenges when our infrastructure is so old," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass told reporters at the scene. "It is my understanding that these pipes are over 100 years old."
Officials added that water services remained functional for a large majority of customers in the area, with the exception of one person.
It's unclear when the ruptured water line would be repaired, as well as the severely damaged portion of Sunset Boulevard."

Un sabato di fine inverno di una 20ina d'anni fa suonava in un paese della bassa, quasivicino al palazzetto c'era il pub dove servivo (anche quella sera). E' arrivato con due tizi che boh! dopo l'orario di chiusura mentre stavamo sistemando chiedendo se potevano mangiare qualcosa, il socio non l'aveva riconosciuto e lo stava mandando via colle buone come faceva con quelli micapochi che arrivavano dopo la chiusura. Abbiam finito di sistemare, non li abbiam disturbati mentre mangiavano un paio di taglieri (giusto un po' cazzeggiato portandogli da bere 'scusi maestro, abbiamo solo questo vinaccio!' '[censored]') niente selfi, non abbiam messo su l'avvelenata. Alla fine, gli abbiam stracciato il conto davanti e chiesto di firmarci due tovagliette di carta: sul quella del socio, tra il nome e l'autografo. ha scritto la prima frase delle osterie di fuori porta, sulla mia l'ultima frase. Chissà dove l'ho messa.
