On the eve of Sukkot in the year 1858, Rabbi Piperno was in Pisa for a brit milah (otherwise known as a bris, a ritual circumcision), when he received an urgent letter from Livorno about a woman in danger in the city of Florence. La situazione è in effetti parecchio scioccante. Peraltro ieri, qui nella profonda provincia dell'impero dove i liceali manifestano comunque, abbiamo ricevuto un messaggio della preside della scuola media che ci ricordava per i collegiens "le statut de leurs enfants ne leur donne pas le droit à manifester".
