Lars von Trier should consider anti-depressants. Just sayin'.

Anal probe and a medical bill: The worst traffic stop ever? - Salon.com - http://www.salon.com/2013...

"For failing to make a complete stop at a stop sign in New Mexico, and the crime of allegedly clenching his buttocks in front of police, David Eckert was subjected to invasive medical procedures to search for drugs he was not carrying. He was hiding no narcotics but was nonetheless left with a hefty medical bill for the tests he claims he had not consented to at any point." - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)

I've been meaning to contact you sooner or talk to you at church but the past two weeks have been tied up in activities with my son's boy scouts. But I was hoping that we could talk in regards to me and my family becoming members of your church. I enjoy my visits there and everyone is so nice and welcoming. Years ago we belonged to ************ but I found myself not feeling comfortable there and just didn't enjoy going. I am not sure what I need to do to become a member but any information and help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would like to have my daughter baptized. Could you please let me know if that is something I could have done as well and any information on that would be appreciated, too. - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)

I have a question or two about the gospel I am using this week. The text I am preaching from on Sunday is Mark 12:28-34:

One of the scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)

imho, i took it to mean the scribe was still manifest in this life, and that we need to release/be free of our earthly bodies to gain access to heaven - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)

What do these things have in common: gynecologist, endocrinologist, neurologist, asthma specialist, and an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor?

Right now there is nothing "terribly" wrong with Desiree. She just keeps getting referred to one specialist after another - it's like the primary care physicians are afraid to do anything on their own. Today we went to the doctor because she has an earache . . . and so off to the Ear, Nose and Throat specialist we go . . . - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)

Last night was our big annual church meeting (we call it a Charge Conference). The people at my church were so positive and happy, my boss (the District Superintendent) kept saying how much things had changed since she first came here 3 years ago. It was a lovefest, people. This is hard for an old pessimist like me to take. :^)

I have been helping my daughter write a research paper on Flannery O'Connor's story "A Good Man Is Hard to Find." I have always loved her writing, but the more I read, the more convinced I am that O'Connor was and is one of the great American writers and certainly in the top echelon of Southern writers.

College librarian denies LGBT student use of school laptop because he looked feminine - Salon.com - http://www.salon.com/2013...

"Florida Atlantic University senior Abdul Asquith just wanted to get some studying done, but was instead confronted with one university librarian’s bigotry after she refused to loan him a laptop to work on because she thought he looked too feminine. After looking at his student ID, Asquith says the librarian told him, “You sound, look and act like a girl and in this ID is a man; therefore, I’m not giving you a laptop.”" - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)

I surmise that having the actors play multiple roles was to help place greater emphasis on the whole reincarnation aspect that was only hinted at in the book. The movie basically moved that concept front-and-center and had to find a way to demonstrate it visually. I have to say, I enjoyed both media. I don't find the film to be TOO dissimilar to the novel, and I think the novel wouldn't have done as well on film had there not been some creative liberties taken. - friarw - - (Edit | Remove)
