10 ads on a receipt. 7 were filler ads for the receipt ad business itself. The rest were all for the same car wash. https://pbs.twimg.com/med...

The bottom two are most telling: It doesn't take a lot of bucks...for good reason. Does it work? Nahhh...otherwise, it wouldn't be so cheap. (On the rare occasion a local market has register-tape advertising, it's about the same: lots of ads for one business, but mostly ads for register-tape advertising.) - waltcrawford - - (Edit | Remove)
I admire the commitment of the register tape business to vary up the graphic design so it looks less obviously like filler. - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

Google+ and YouTube are finally splitting up - http://www.theverge.com/2...

"Google is officially divorcing Google+ profiles from its other, more popular services. Today the company published a blog post announcing that over the next few months, "a Google Account will be all you’ll need to share content, communicate with contacts, create a YouTube channel and more, all across Google."" - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

I assume Google was desperate for a social media win after failing with Orkut, Buzz, and Wave, and figured bundling it with Youtube and their other successful ventures would help. To be honest, I'm a little surprised at how little that helped; it's almost as if being forced to use a superfluous product turned people off. - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

Idea: set up a "destination divorce" shop at the base of an active volcano, so geeky divorcees could destroy their Rings. @MostlyPregnant

Have I got just the right volcano for you! Volcan Masaya, in Nicaragua. http://www.tripadvisor.co... It's all developed and you can drive up now, I guess. When I lived there for a couple of years in the 70's, the school bus dropped us off at the base of the volcano and we hiked up. There was no wall around the caldera back then. [In /my day/ we didn't need a sissy wall around a volcano. We knew not to fall in!] :-) - bentley - - (Edit | Remove)

Weirdly, my monitor was set in the OS to refresh at 59 Hz instead of 60 Hz, which might be why any kind of Windows User Access Control / Secure Desktop thing would take multiple seconds as the monitor switched modes. Setting the normal refresh rate to 60 Hz seems to have fixed the UAC thing.

Weird. I wonder if my monitor is the same way; I've always noticed that with UAC, since the Vista days. - Friendfed Mr. Noodle - - (Edit | Remove)

The monitor might be refreshing at 59.94 Hz no matter what the setting is in Windows. Stupid NTSC. The UAC flicker is real and consistently worse at the 59 Hz setting, though. - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

"If Gwyneth Paltrow were your girlfriend, doors would open for you a little quicker, you’d always have enough room on public transport, and black cats would jump out of your way. Dogs would howl when they saw you, but you never really liked dogs that much anyway." - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

"If Gwyneth Paltrow were your girlfriend, you’d get to share her wardrobe – multiple wardrobes, actually, three different walk-in closets in one house. There would be another closet that was always locked and that you’d never seen into; a closet that you occasionally heard scratching noises from, or the soft scuffling of thousands of tiny legs, but you wouldn’t think about it that much." - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

You can make a twitter collection (like Storify, but just for tweets) with Tweetdeck, but not on the web or Twitter's own app.

I often wonder what Twitter's engineers are working on, because (for one example), I'm pretty sure the iOS app is a universal app for iPad and iPhone, a single binary that works on all iOS devices and displays differently depending on what device it is -- and the few-months-old new quoting feature /is/ on iPhone but not on iPad. Same app! They even updated the app so the new link preview thing shows up in iPad, so it's not a completely abandoned project. - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)
More generally, I thought game developers were slapdash cowboy coders, but the simple and obvious checklists of things that Twitter should do before pushing out a new version don't seem to get done. - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

I could imagine that crappy dashcam tech might cause skips. I can't believe it'd cause loops, esp with audio not skipping/looping in sync.
