Trying this recipe out today. I did forget to rub the garlic on at the beginning, so I'm adding some to the remaining mustard mixture, and then adding it and the parmesan at the end to cook for an extra 5 minutes, as recommended in the comments. - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Portland Timbers transfer midfielder George Fochive to Danish club Viborg FF | MLSsoccer.com (http://www.mlssoccer.com/... ) [http://league-mp7static.m... ]

"Another player is leaving Portland to head abroad. The Portland Timbers announced on Tuesday that they have transferred midfielder George Fochive to Danish first division club Viborg FF. Fochive, 23, leaves Portland after two seasons and 11 career appearances, all of which came in 2015, with the Timbers.  “This is a position where we currently have very good depth and we took into consideration that George wanted to explore this opportunity,” Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said in a club statement. “With these factors taken into account, we have agreed to the transfer of George and wish him all the best.”" - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Jermaine Jones says six-game suspension is hampering potential move overseas | MLSsoccer.com (http://www.mlssoccer.com/... ) [http://league-mp7static.m... ]

"Jermaine Jones says he'd like to return to Germany to play but that his six-game suspension, for making contact with referee Mark Geiger in New England's playoff loss last year to Columbus Crew SC, is hurting his chances of joining another club. Jones lashed out at MLS and U.S. Soccer for the length of the sanction in a media session before the US national team's training session Thursday morning at StubHub Center and blamed the league and federation – unfairly, it turns out, based on FIFA regulations – for pushing foreign clubs to honor the suspension. “It's a little bit ridiculous. It's really crazy,” Jones said. “So I get a six-game suspension in this league, and I told the league that I want to go [elsewhere]. I have some offers from different countries, and, end of the day, it's a call on Sunil [Gulati, US Soccer president] and Garber [MLS Commissioner Don Garber] to bring the suspension over to the other countries, too.”" - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Top 5 MLS Homegrown Players not named Jordan Morris | Soccer By Ives (http://sbisoccer.com/2016... ) [https://usatsbi.files.wor... ]
8 years ago from Bookmarklet - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
"The last couple of weeks have been dominated by talk of Morris and whether he would sign with the Seattle Sounders and MLS, but what seemed to be lost in all the hubbub was the fact that several other promising up-and-comers also agreed to contracts with their respective hometown clubs in the league this winter. From the New York Red Bulls and their avalanche of signings to FC Dallas and its latest addition, there are plenty of youngsters to keep an eye on in 2016 and beyond. None of those players might be as ready for life in the pros as Morris, but that does not necessarily mean that they will be limited to sporadic minutes throughout the season. Even if that does wind up being the case, there are plenty of reasons for their respective club’s fanbases to be excited about what is to come from the next wave of MLS players." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Jordan Morris bypasses draft, allocation ranking to sign with Seattle - Brotherly Game (http://www.brotherlygame.... )
8 years ago from Bookmarklet - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
The article is interesting for me, not because of the Morris signing haterade, but in noting how dysfunctional the Union' academy system seems to have been. It is part-time, and makes it far more difficult to have those players get the requisite training hours with their team, especially if they're in demand elsewhere during the college off-season. Given all of the other problems the team has had, it isn't surprising that they might not have been overseeing that aspect of recruiting as much as they should have. - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)
Seattle didn't get a favorites pass - they took advantage of the one area where having a bunch of extra money and a really, really good manager helps: the academy system. They set theirs up early, grandfathered in some of the best early prospects (Yedlin's generation, since they were right on the cusp when the team entered the league) and then /followed through/ in making sure that prospects met the requirements. The teams who have been aggressive about this are going to be seeing dividends. I expect to see signings that are similar from places like LA and Portland. - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

The Zach Scott Immortality Tour lives on another year - Sounder At Heart (http://www.sounderatheart... )

"Zach Scott will be back in a Seattle Sounders uniform for a 15th season, after all. The Sounders announced that the 35-year-old has been re-signed, a couple months after they had declined his option and it appeared as though the center back would retire. Scott is the Sounders' last remaining player from their USL days and one of just three players left from their inaugural MLS season. "It's exciting to bring back a player who competes as hard as Zach does day in and day out," head coach Sigi Schmid said in a team release. "His toughness, resilience and experience have always made him a valuable member of this team." Part of why it looked as though Scott had played his final season with the Sounders was that he battled a host of injuries in 2015, including a broken foot that failed to sideline him for any significant time." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Jordan Morris signs 'richest Homegrown Player contract' in MLS history - Sounder At Heart (http://www.sounderatheart... )
8 years ago from Bookmarklet - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
"It was a quite a ride -- especially over the past couple weeks -- but the Seattle Sounders have finally completed the longest courtship in their history. Jordan Morris officially joined the Sounders on Thursday, ending a pursuit that was at least three years in the making and seemed all but lost as recently as a couple days ago. Of course, it took a bit longer to get here than it originally seemed it would. After Morris led Stanford to the College Cup and just before he was named the college soccer's best player, he surprised no one by choosing to end his amateur career. Instead of signing with the Sounders straightaway, though, Morris opted to go on trial with Bundesliga club Werder Bremen at the behest of United States national team coaches. Throughout the 10-day trial, reports were rampant that Morris was impressing and Werder Bremen brass even expressed confidence about getting the 21-year-old signed. But as he did repeatedly by turning down the Sounders' earlier Homegrown Player offers, Morris again surprised most of the soccer world by signing with his hometown team. The Sounders were only too happy to give him the richest HGP contract in league history." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)
I had completely forgotten that his dad was the team doctor. That explains so much of how he's handled the pressure from all sides, and why he has been so deliberate in his choices. "Just two days after Werder Bremen general manager said it was only a matter of "when" Jordan Morris would sign, the club has now announced that Morris turned down an offer to join the club this season. Instead, Sporting Director Thomas Eichen said that Morris made it clear after "intensive talks" that he currently sees a future in America. Eichen said Werder Bremen would consider a future transfer. "Of course, we respect this decision," Eichen said. "We're in a situation now, where we need players who identify with Werder and the way things are done here completely, in order for them to focus properly on the task ahead. For this reason, we are distancing ourselves from a transfer for the time being, but we will remain in close contact with him and are entertaining the idea of working together in the future."" - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

"LAFC, slated to join MLS for the 2018 season, revealed their official crest and club colors in a Thursday press conference at Union Station in Los Angeles. Here's a look at the new crest, which debuted simultaneously on @ESPNFC Twitter. The crest, "100% made of Los Angeles," derived its outline from the Seal of the City, incorporating an Art Deco-inspired typeface (Neutraface) based on the signage of architect Richard Neutra, a nod to Downtown Los Angeles' rich collection of buildings designed in that style. Pitch Black and California Gold color the crest, and are meant to embody the success, urban texture and glamour of Los Angeles. A flash of Glory Red represents the team's home in the heart of the city, with Asphalt and Wolff Gray complements." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Was Pepco's $25M Deal For DC United Naming Rights A Case Of 'Pay-To-Play?' | WAMU 88.5 - American University Radio (http://wamu.org/news/16/0... ) (http://wamu.org/sites/wam... )

"Pepco recently inked a deal with D.C. to pay $25 million for naming rights near the planned soccer stadium for DC United. But the timing of the deal — along with the generous payout and scant details — have some questioning whether it's connected to the controversial merger agreement between the city government and the power companies Pepco and Exelon. For opponents of the proposed merger, like Mike Tidwell of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, the $25 million naming rights deal doesn't add up. He says the agreement is far more generous for the city than any other naming rights deal in the country, particularly because Pepco is paying the money upfront. Tidwell thinks that's odd, considering the rights are for an area around the stadium, not the stadium itself. On top of that, he says the agreement was signed around the same time D.C. reached a deal with Pepco and Exelon over its nearly $7 billion merger." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

MLS suspends Jermaine Jones for 6 matches, which may also impact World Cup qualifiers - The Washington Post (https://www.washingtonpos... ) [https://img.washingtonpos... ]
8 years ago from Bookmarklet - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
"MLS on Friday suspended midfielder Jermaine Jones for six matches, a ban that, if he remains in the league, would also prevent him from playing in two U.S. World Cup qualifiers next spring. The suspension — which covers both club and national team games because it involved assaulting a referee — goes into effect when Jones returns to action, whenever and wherever that may be. He is out of contract with the New England Revolution and weighing options abroad. If he returns to MLS, the suspension would start when the regular season kicks off in early March and overlap with the World Cup qualifiers against Guatemala late that month. By signing elsewhere, and resuming play earlier in 2016, he would serve out the ban before the U.S. matches." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)
I was just starting to wonder when this would get handed down. It's about what I expected, given that he was actually physical with Geiger. As I was with Dempsey, I'm glad this has an impact not just on club games, but national team play as well, especially since his league status is unknown. It probably didn't help that immediately afterwards he said that he felt somewhat justified. - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Major League Soccer looks to 28-team future, announce schedule changes - Sounder At Heart (http://www.sounderatheart... ) [http://static.mlsdigital.... ]
8 years ago from Bookmarklet - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
"At the annual MLS Board of Governors meeting, league owners announced their support of continued massive expansion to bring Major League Soccer's field to at least 28 teams. This comes after a previous pledge to expand to 24 teams by the year 2020, which looks to be ahead of schedule with the imminent arrival of Atlanta United, Los Angeles FC, Minnesota and Miami. League expansion has long been a hot topic, as nine of the top eleven teams in 2015 average attendance joined MLS after the inaugural 1996 season. The ten original clubs (those which still exist, at least) have at times struggled to stay relevant in the face of overwhelming success in Canada, Cascadia, and other places across the continent. Markets like Sacramento, San Antonio, St. Louis and Detroit will be front-runners for these expansion slots as all have met with MLS officials within the past year. The announcement likely won't sit well with FIFA. Soccer's embattled governing body has long recommended a 18-team top tier and/or a 38-game limit." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Seattle Sounders Alliance sets out new rules for GM retention votes - Sounder At Heart (http://www.sounderatheart... )
8 years ago from Bookmarklet - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
"In February the team and the council met and agreed that the GM vote process needed to be given teeth and clarified to cover all future scenarios. The new rules establish that a vote will take place every four seasons after a new GM is hired (so the Sounders bringing in Lagerwey essentially reset the clock). At least 40 percent of Alliance Members must cast a vote in order to make the result valid, and only a supermajority of 67 percent can effectively "fire" the GM. This is a change from the 2012 vote, which had a 10,000-vote threshold for validity, and required only a simple majority for a binding decision. Alliance members' votes will continue to be weighted based on the number of season ticket seats on their account, one vote per seat, just as before. The rules also define "General Manager" to mean the individual "identified and recognized by Major League Soccer, LLC as the senior most soccer decision maker, whom is designated to represent the Club at all league wide competition related committees and meetings." This prevents the club from messing with the titles or roles of employees such that the GM is not really the one in charge." - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

I wondered how they were going to handle this. It seemed a bit unfair that the current system would stand, if the clock just simply reset every time a new GM was hired. You hope that the GM is in for the long-term, but if you had a quick succession of people, that might be just as bad as one person under-performing, and the fans wouldn't get a say. This way, there's a bit more of an outlet for that, and the 2-year mark feels fair. - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)
