At first, Stephen DiRado thought his dad was dealing with depression. Gene DiRado, then in his late 50s, had become more withdrawn, more forgetful. So Stephen processed his growing concern by doing what he'd done since the age of 12: taking photographs. - Mauro - -

Stephen's black-and-white portraits of Gene, spanning decades, turned into a documentary project called With Dad. The project is the winner of the 2018 Bob and Diane Fund, awarded this week, which aims to support photographic work about Alzheimer's disease and dementia through a $5,000 grant. - Mauro - -

- Andrea Tassi - [ 1 ] -

e poi lo sticky pricing: "And when each new drug comes into the market, the new drug is priced slightly higher than the old ones. And instead of all of them competing and lowering the price, they all go up to that higher ceiling, that sticky ceiling. So what we've seen over time is all of the MS drugs in the U.S. go up and up and up in price, double what they were a decade ago. In the rest of the world, they go down over time because there is some competition." - Mauro - - [ 1 ]

Chick Corea: Back In Boston https://www.npr.org/2018/...

8 years ago - Comment - Hide - - -

Jazz Night in America caught up with Corea during a recent gig at Scullers in Boston — just across the river from Chelsea, Mass., where he was born and raised. He was on tour with a new trio he calls Vigilette, with Carlitos Del Puerto on bass and Marcus Gilmore on drums. The set list combined songbook standards like "On Green Dolphin Street" with originals like "Rhumba Flamenco," each number delivered with Corea's brand of articulate flair. - Mauro - -

When October Books, a small radical bookshop in Southampton, England, was moving to a new location down the street, it faced a problem. How could it move its entire stock to the new spot, without spending a lot of money or closing down for long? The shop came up with a clever solution: They put out a call for volunteers to act as a human conveyor belt. - Mauro - [ 1 ] -

GOODWYN: The men who murdered an African-American child from Chicago in order to further terrorize the local black community believe they had served the cause of white supremacy well, but in fact, they'd done anything but. Though it would take another decade, Tyson says the seeds of the Voting Rights Act were actually planted in Mississippi in 1955 in the blood of Emmett Till. - Mauro - -
