Dr. Bonnie Beaver, a veterinarian at Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences says it’s because, “living conditions of the cat have changed over time.” Early on, feral cats would have to hunt for food. They would sleep when possible. But, the housecat can just walk to a bowl and they’re still conditioned to sleep. - GuitarBuster - -

“If you run brain wave patterns on them, they aren’t in real sleep. They’re just kind of resting” says Dr. Beaver. She says cats can sleep 16 to 20 hours a day and it’s important for them get rest. Dr. Beaver says, “Are they dreaming about something…really seeing something in their mind’s eye…that we will never know because we can’t ask them.” She says if a cat sleeps very little there may be something wrong.
