Two things: 1) I can't breathe - nose is all stuffy. 2) There is an internal pimple in my nose that really hurts when I try to blow my nose. Oh, and 3) My life sucks. :^)
drink some hot tea (and maybe take a decongestant), pop the pimple and remember that alot of us think you are awesome.

It is so very easy to go down a youtube hole . . . but I must ascend and get myself to bed. Good night all. Sleep soundly and wake in the morning with a smile on your face having lived to see another day.

i. “Your name is Tasbeeh. Don’t let them call you by anything else.” My mother speaks to me in Arabic; the command sounds more forceful in her mother tongue, a Libyan dialect that is all sharp edges and hard, guttural sounds. I am seven years old and it has never occurred to me to disobey my mother. Until twelve years old, I would believe God gave... - http://friarw.tumblr.com/post...

Here's the sermon for tomorrow. I even include the ppt slides with the scriptures and pictures for the sermon. :^) The title: The Toughest Temptation.
So your Ash Wednesday services aren't well attended? It's a minor point in the sermon, but it stood out to me because the Catholic services on that date are usually packed.

I think I've seen more people at the Maundy Thursday services, and even those are relatively thin. All of the Lutheran congregations I've been part of have had the services, they are just not a big draw, as it were.

Well, I dropped the last of the homemade pulled pork bbq I was going to have as a snack on the floor. Stormie got to enjoy it instead of me. For me . . . marinated artichoke hearts instead. Not the same at all.

Happy, happy, joy, joy. A church meeting tonight that I chair. My life is complete. If the meeting does not end by 8 pm (it starts at 7 pm), I am authorizing Jim (who will also be there) to shoot me.

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid... - http://friarw.tumblr.com/post...
"Years ago, some feminist on the internet told me I was "Privileged." "THE FUCK!?!?" I said. I came from the kind of Poor that people don't want to believe still exists in this country. Have you ever spent a frigid northern Illinois winter without heat or running water? I have. At twelve years old, were you making ramen noodles in a coffee maker with water you fetched from a public bathroom? I was."

Well, what people are aware of experiencing is lack of privilege. The reason why privilege is so insidious is because it's very difficult to perceive when you do have unearned privilege. It's generally a negative (in the sense of absence) experience. You have no idea what bad things could be happening to you or what things you could be deprived of without your existing privilege.

"I attended a United Methodist Church service last week for the first time since before the Frank Shaefer trial. It left me with mixed feelings. The congregation is a Reconciling congregation, and the service included the "Reaffirmation of the Baptismal Covenant," one of my favorite services. The choir was excellent, the service was very good, the people (though a fairly small group) friendly and welcoming."

So, on the one hand, it felt very good to be there and I was very glad my friend had encouraged me to attend with her today. But, on the other hand, there was a part of me (especially at first) that wanted to run screaming out the back door ... and perhaps throughout the service a part of me that was thinking and feeling about almost everything, "well, yes, but ..." It didn't exactly feel like "home." And I fear no United Methodist Church, Reconciling or not, ever will again. I suppose in a way this blog is my own "Why I'm Not Sure I Can Stay" written in response to the faithful women and men who are writing why they will be staying in The UMC.

A Sacramental Universe
Tuesday, January 14, 2014
Vincent Donovan, a missionary in Africa, wrote of working with the Masai many years ago. He said the people were all sitting very respectfully listening to him as the priest, and he was teaching them about the Seven Sacraments of the Church.
He described a sacrament as a physical encounter or event in which you experience the Transcendent or Grace or the Holy, and he could tell the men were not very satisfied when he said there were only seven such moments. One of the elders finally raised his hand and said, “I thought there would be seven thousand!”
