I often use the quote above in the signature line of my emails. It encapsulates how I would like to approach living. I truly believe that, as the cliche states, “the unexamined life is not worth living,” and that, as Buechner says elsewhere, if we are ever going to experience God or hear God speak, it will be in our own lives. I have found this to be true in my own life, or at least I did when I was younger. - friarw - -

I find that many people who have strong opinions on scripture, really have spent little time actually *reading* scripture. And I've met many atheists who have a better working knowledge than many Christians. Which means what? Not much. It's a book, actually a collection of books, some of it poetry, some prose, some "history" some really good stuff that I've taken to heart and hold dearly (like Micah 6:8, and The Beatitudes) and a bunch of stuff I ignore, like the entire book of Revelation. And as to point 3, I have little trouble with a "wrathful god" within context. - friarw - -

I was in Central KY, and the show takes place in Southeastern KY. The dialogue and accents are sometimes accurate, but the dialogue especially is stylized in the show. Plus the show is a lot more violent than I remember any part of KY being. - friarw - -
