The Orwell Reader - Nineteen Eighty-Four (Chapter One Excerpt) - http://www.theorwellreader.com/excerpt...

Inside the flat a fruity voice was reading out a list of figures which had something to do with the production of pig iron. The Voice came from an oblong metal plaque like a dulled mirror which formed part of the surface of the right-hand wall. Winston turned a switch and the voice sank somewhat, though the words were still distinguishable. The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely. He moved over to the window: a smallish, frail figure, the meagerness of his body merely emphasized by the blue overalls which were the uniform of the Party. His hair was very fair, his face naturally sanguine, his skin roughened by coarse soap and blunt razor blades and the cold of the winter that had just ended. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Behind Winston's back the voice from the telescreen was still babbling away about pig iron and the overfulfillment of the Ninth Three-Year Plan. The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plate commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. but at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You have to live - did live, from habit that became instinct - in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Just under four million tonnes of this leftover straw is produced every year by UK agriculture, according to the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board It takes about seven tonnes of straw to build a three-bedroom house with this pre-fabrication method That means there is potential to grow the material for more than half a million new homes every year in British fields. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

A human hair can hold six pounds. The length of the penis is three times the length of the thumb. The femur is as hard as concrete. A woman's heart beats faster than a man's. Women blink twice as much as men. We use 300 muscles just to keep on balance when we stand. The woman has read this entire status. The man is still looking at his thumb. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) stands at a crossroads. Old infrastructure, zoning, and financial policies steer the region toward more Texas-sized sprawl. The real estate markets—aided by newer transit systems and forward-thinking planners and developers—point to connected, walkable neighborhoods. Key upcoming transportation decisions could lead to a shortcut to the new future or prop the old system up. Either way, the dynamic, fourth-largest US metro is in flux. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Report: St. Louis-area woman wanted to marry Charles Manson for his corpse | FOX2now.com - http://fox2now.com/2015...
1 decade ago from Friendfeed - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
Notorious mass murderer Charles Manson made headlines late last year when he and a St. Louis-area woman applied for a marriage license. However, the license expired last week, so no wedding bells for the 80-year-old Manson and 27-year-old Afton Elaine Burton, who now goes by “Star.” The couple plans to reapply for a license in the near future. But the story took the proverbial “unexpected twist” on Sunday, when the New York Post reported that Burton is only interested in marrying Manson for his corpse. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)
The Post cites journalist Daniel Simone, who claims Burton and a friend planned on taking Manson’s body and set up a Vladimir Lenin-esque display by putting the body inside a glass crypt and charge people admission to see it. Simone says Burton and Hammond initially wanted Manson to sign papers granting them ownership of his body, but the killer balked at the notion, so the two conceived the idea for Burton to marry Manson. The law in California, where Manson is incarcerated, grants spousal ownership of remains. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

The Last Song Before the War is a feature-length documentary that captures the inspiring rise and uncertain future of Mali’s annual Festival in the Desert. Against the backdrop of stunning musical performances, the film subtly reveals the challenges and triumphs of creating an artistic event in such challenging economic and political circumstances. After 12 years of success and unforgettable musical moments, the Festival in the Desert came to a halt in 2012 when separatist rebels and Islamic militants seized control of Northern Mali. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Emergency Recall Training for Dogs - http://shay-marie.hubpages.com/hub...
1 decade ago from Friendfeed - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
In this guide, I'll show you the method I used to teach my pup how to come when called 100% of the time. I can tell you with full authority that even the most stubborn dog can learn an emergency recall word and respond to it consistently. Knowing how to get your dog to come when called is one of the most important things to figure out as a pet owner. Even if you're dog isn't capable of learning how to balance a treat on their nose or moonwalk, you absolutely want to make sure they are safe in every situation. For dogs and puppies that are stubborn, prone to wandering, or are runners/animal chasers, teaching emergency recall is an absolute requisite. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Big contracts, big data, big dollars and a big mess | www.mystatesman.com - http://www.mystatesman.com/news...

Over the past decade, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission has bungled several major contracts that totaled nearly $2 billion, and despite public blowups and calls for reform, problems persist in part because of a lack of accountability in Texas’ fragmented purchasing system. The massive health agency’s problems extend well beyond the unfolding 21CT no-bid contract scandal. Officials acknowledged to a state Senate panel last week that they don’t know for certain how much the agency has paid to private companies or how many contracts are active. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)
