For some motorists, it’s the ultimate expression of capitalism. For others, it’s tantamount to highway robbery. Either way, the era of congestion pricing has arrived in Tarrant County. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)
But for commuters, the opening of North Tarrant Express signals the dawn of a new era — one in which the price for traveling on a toll road changes based on traffic conditions. The worse the congestion in the toll-free lanes, the higher the cost to whiz right by in one of the toll lanes. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

A quote from the article in my previous post. I don't know the source for this number, nor do I understand the meaning. Does it really mean cost? Consumer dollars spent? - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

It is hard to tell. The numbers from wikipedia are in the same ballpark with data from OECD in 2011. The U.S. cost/spending is way out of line with the others. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Ebola in Texas: Should You Be Worried? - http://www.burntorangereport.com/diary...
1 decade ago from Friendfeed - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
To recap, if you aren’t one of the handful of people who had direct exposure to the current Ebola patient (and you’d know who you are because the CDC would have contacted you already), you are not at risk of getting Ebola–there’s no need to worry. In fact, if you’re a Texan, Greg Abbott is a greater threat to your health than Ebola. His refusal to expand Medicaid will put a strain on Texas hospitals, while the abortion restrictions he supports are leading to worse outcomes for Texas children’s health. So overall, you shouldn’t be worried about getting Ebola. But your health is still at risk–unless you take action, you’ll get Greg Abbott as governor. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Tea Party Extremist Backed by Ted Cruz and Dan Patrick Could Lose HD 94 Race - http://www.burntorangereport.com/diary...

House District 94 in west Arlington is becoming a key race to keep an eye out for as voters are becoming more and more aware of the stark contrast between the two main candidates running for office — Democrat Cole Ballweg and Tea Party extremist Tony Tinderholt. The district seat was most recently held by Representative Diane Patrick, a moderate Republican ousted from office during the Republican primaries by Tinderholt, who relied on heavy Tea Party support to pull off the upset. The district seat has not been held by a Democrat in decades. Yet, this could very well change come November. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

This is a video of the curious instrument that I wrongly thought was a 12 string Weissenborn in the previous post. Made by Norweigian luthier Harald Hougaard it's actually called a "HARDANGERSLIDE" and TWiE member Jan Christian Gjems knows all about it. "Harald Hougaard is a very good norwegian luthier, and it's a weissenborn he has build with inspiration from the norwegian hardanger fiddle. This weissenborn has got six understrings or sympathetic strings under the six regular strings, and the deisgn is also inspired from a hardanger fiddle. It has a spruce top and Maple back and sides. The guitar was build during 2010 - 2011" - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

The sister of the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the United States says he told relatives he notified officials the first time he went to the hospital that he was visiting from Liberia. Mai Wureh says her brother, Thomas Eric Duncan, went to a Dallas emergency room on Friday and they sent him home with antibiotics. She says he said hospital officials asked for his Social Security number and he said that he didn't have one because he was visiting from Liberia. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Officials say about 12 to 18 people total were in direct contact with the patient since he arrived in Dallas. Sana Syed, a spokeswoman with the city of Dallas, confirmed the patient was vomiting when he arrived at the hospital. The three paramedics who transported the patient are temporarily off duty and among those under observation. All three paramedics tested negative for the virus. Due to close contact with the diagnosed patient, a second person is under the close monitoring of health officials as a possible second patient, said the director of Dallas County's health department Wednesday morning in an interview with WFAA. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Keep On Keepin On movie trailer. In Keep On Keepin’ On, a 23-year-old, blind piano prodigy, Justin Kauflin, who suffers terrible stage fright, finds his way to jazz legend and teacher Clark Terry, 89. Over the course of filming, Terry begins to lose his sight as an unlikely bond begins to take hold. When Justin is invited to compete in an elite international competition, Clark’s health takes a turn for the worse. As clocks tick, we are suddenly witness to two friends tackling the toughest challenges of their interwoven lives. Terry, now 93, was Quincy Jones’ first teacher, and mentor to Miles Davis. He is among the few performers ever to have played in both Count Basie’s and Duke Ellington’s bands. In the ‘60s Terry broke the color barrier as the first African-American staff musician at NBC, on The Tonight Show. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)

Is it possible to build an affordable, beautiful, energy-efficient house that can cozily withstand the rigors of a Maine winter? Architect Matthew O'Malia would say yes, based on his experience with the house featured in this article. This 1000-sq.-ft. retirement home, designed for comfort and flexibility, costs about $160 per sq. ft. to build and, depending on siting, is capable of meeting the Passive House standard. Six key elements work together to make this house appealing: insulation for an R-50 SIP wall assembly and an R-60 foundation; triple-glazed windows; diligent air-sealing; minimized risk of thermal bridging; attention to indoor-air quality; and a super-insulated slab foundation that picks up heat during the day and releases it slowly at night. This house is finished with simple interiors that highlight the house's forested surroundings. This article includes a sidebar about the high-performance German EGE windows used in the house. - GuitarBuster - - (Edit | Remove)
