"It was a banner week for right-wing racists and sexists. The acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman, issued a cascade of attempts to portray Martin as the real criminal in an incident where the unarmed teenager was stalked and killed essentially for being black. The deeply objectionable things said in the wake of the trial are too numerous to mention, although Geraldo Rivera managed to maintain his supremacy atop the mountain of absurdity in his comments on the case, which began months ago when he identified hoodies as the uniform of criminals."

Everytime "Moneyball" comes on, I have to watch it. I have to. I have no choice in the matter. Do y'all have a movie like that?
"As a person who has benefitted from “white privilege” all of my life, my experience tells me that I can take liberties and benefit from assumptions that have served me well over the years. I do not have to worry about being threatened with stealing and trespassing when I hit a golf ball onto someone else’s property. Neither do I have to worry about how I am perceived if I walk around with my hands in my pocket or when I wear a “hoodie.” I live in relative comfort with few threats being sent my way in a normal day. Not so for people of color."

Being a "commie pinko socialist" myself, I have to say that I love Steven Perez and all of his posts, even if there are times when all I can see are Steven's posts. :^)

You know I haven't complained for at least 24 hours so I thought it was time to do so. I am feeling rather poorly since returning home. It's like I have an allergy to work or something. Just thought you should know.
Janet, I have pretty much resigned myself to the idea of remaining a pastor. Most days it is not a bad job/vocation, but like other jobs out there, there are days and times that are particularly trying.

"Nothing could be more preposterous than rich people giving poor people advice on how to stretch a dollar. The absurdity of this is captured perfectly by John Scalzi’s aphorism that “being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs.”"

Also this aphorism I first heard from my father: The less you get paid, the harder you have to work.

The best part of today was having lunch with a friendfeeder in the "coolest small town in America" as voted on in 2011 - Lewisburg, WV. It is a really cool town.

I left Lexington, KY at 6:45 am. I arrived home at 9:15 pm. Not counting the time I spent visiting with a friend, eating lunch and then supper, I spent at least 11 hours driving today. And I made it without any problems. Maybe I'm not as old as I feel sometimes. :^)
Wish I'd known you were rolling through. Texas Roadhouse (not to be confused with Texas Steakhouse, which is on the other end of town) is about 5 minutes from our house, but we already have plans to eat dinner with my parents tonight.

Yeah, it would have been awesome to see you, too. Yes, in case you're ever this way again, I live just over the line in WV, just outside of Winchester (the Inwood exit of 81)
